The North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF) is the state's only nonprofit organization focused exclusively on protecting and restoring the coast of North Carolina through education, advocacy, restoration, and public information. NCCF headquarters is located in Ocean between Morehead City and Swansboro. Headquartereted inn Ocean, NC, the Coastal Federation offices are open to the public 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and provide information displays, a nature gift shop, a nature library, seashell exhibit and learning center. The office is located on Highway 24 across from Patsy Pond featuring three miles of nature trails.

The Coastal Federation maintains two Nature Trails in Carteret County, which are open to the public every day during daylight hours. The Patsy Pond Nature Trail in the Croatan National Forest is located directly across from headquarters in Ocean and features long-leaf pine forest with spectacular shallow ponds. Visit a globally endangered maritime forest while hiking the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail located in Atlantic Beach off NC Highway 58 next to the Atlantic Station Shopping Mall. For those interested in a hands-on experience throughout the year the Coastal Federation offers volunteer opportunities from marine debris cleanups to oyster shell bagging to the restoration of oyster reefs. During the summer, the Coastal Federation hosts a number of events including: summer camps for kids, birding and estuary cruises from Hammocks Beach State Park that are suitable for the whole family.
